For centuries, the group of philosophers that would eventually become The Jedi contemplated the mysteries of the energy field known as The Force. Eventually, some of the group's members mastered The Force. After that, they dedicated themselves to using their newfound skills and powers for good, helping those in need. In the thousands of years that followed, the Jedi served as protectors of The Galactic Republic. Answering to their own Jedi Council and operating in concordance with the Judicial Department of the office of the Supreme Chancellor, the Jedi became the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.

The Jedi, in addition to battling interstellar criminals and settling galactic disputes, served as mediators, defenders, and teachers. Because of their sense of honor and the epic challenges they undertook, the Jedi became legends, serving as symbols of the best the Republic has to offer. With Lightsabers at their side and the power of The Force flowing through them, the Jedi accomplished the tasks set before them with dedication and seeming invisibility. But that invincibility was only an illusion. Jedi often died in the defense of freedom and justice.

During The Rise of the Empire Era (Episodes I-III), ten thousand Jedi served the Republic and defended its vast territory. They identified potential recruits early in life, usually within the first six months of a child's existence. As infants, those attuned to The Force and accepted by the Jedi Council were taken to begin their training. Older children, if identified later in life as being Force-sensitive, were refused training in most cases; the Jedi believed that the fear and anger in older children made them too susceptible to The Dark Side, and so it was unwise to train them. All characters playing in this era that are Jedi Padawan Learners (Jedi Class Levels 1st through 6th) have a master (Jedi Class Levels 7th or higher). While there may be times when the master and the padawan travel together, most of their interactions happen between adventurers, while all characters are training and improving. The master is a GM character, offering training, advice, and aid when the GM feels such aid is appropriate and necessary. Unfortunately, by the end of this time period, Anakin Skywalker has turned to The Dark Side and the Empire has slaughtered nearly all Jedi.

During The Rebellion Era, the Jedi Purge has been completed. All but a handful of Force-users, let alone fully trained Jedi, were exterminated or corrupted to The Dark Side and placed in the service of the Emperor. Force-sensitive individuals, such as Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, were hidden from the Empire and cut off from their heritage. More powerful Force-users, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, purposely disappeared and worked to stay unnoticed. Jedi characters in this era eventually attract a teacher, though the training these Force-users provide is haphazard at best. A would-be Jedi learns by experience, though occasional meetings with other Force-users, and even by studying with beings who follow other Force Traditions. It's not easy, which is why Jedi in this period are few and far between, and few reach the level of power exhibited in earlier or later periods. A Gamemaster wishing to simulate this experience might require the potential character to have at least one non-Force-using Heroic Class level before allowing them to take levels in the Jedi Class.

In The New Jedi Order Era, Luke Skywalker has trained about one hundred Jedi and identified perhaps a dozen others in need of training. Prominent Force-users such as Mara Jade Skywalker and Corran Horn help Skywalker train and coordinate the efforts of these Jedi, while promising students such as the Solo children and Ganner Rhysode show great promise for the future. Jedi characters again receive a higher-level mentor who provides training and advice between adventures or when the Gamemaster deems such interaction to be warranted and important to a mission.

Membership Edit

Any character with the Force Sensitivity feat can become a member of the Jedi Tradition by being accepted as an apprentice by a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master.

Members of The Jedi Order are always required to be the Guardians of Peace and Justice in the Republic. Members of The Jedi Order must be prepared to take orders from the Jedi Councils. They must be willing to put all personal ambitions and attachments aside to perform their selfless duties to the Republic. They will engage in dangerous missions, negotiate and broker peace between planetary governments, organizations, and individual citizens of the Republic. They represent the moral compass of the Republic. All members must be prepared to give their live at any time in service to the Republic.

Enemies and Allies: The greatest enemy of The Jedi is The Sith. Throughout the entire history of the Galaxy The Sith and The Jedi have been in an epic duel of The Force. The Jedi are always on the lookout for the users of The Dark Side of The Force through mostly peaceful, yet at times hostile, actions attempt to eradicate The Dark Side. The most prominent ally of The Jedi is The Galactic Republic.

Titles, Benefits, and Duties: The following includes the various ranks and titles of The Jedi, as well as their benefits and duties befitting their stature.

RANK SCORE BENEFITS AND DUTIES
Youngling 0-8 Younglings are the lowest-ranking members of The Jedi Order. They are typically children who are being raised and beginning their training in the Jedi Arts.
  • Younglings gain no benefits from their rank, and are only required to attend their assigned Academy classes.
Jedi Service Corps* 8+ Members of the Jedi Service Corps are permanently assigned to either the ArgiCorps, EduCorps, ExplorCorps, or MedCorps to aid the Republic in miscellanious dutites.
  • Jedi Service Corps gain access to an Astromech Droid or Protocol Droid that has no more than three Nonheroic levels (No Heroic Classes).
Padawan 9-17 Padawans are students of Jedi Knights or Jedi Masters to receive more direct tutelage in preparation for their Jedi Trials.
  • Padawans gain free transportation while within the Order's sphere of influence, access to a Starfighter for up to 1 week, and access to the Jedi Archives that allows them to make a Gather Information check from anywhere in the galaxy.
  • Padawans are required to follow their Masters on missions from the Order.
Jedi Knight 18-25 Jedi Knights are those former Padawans that have succeeded in passing their Jedi Trials.
  • Jedi Knights gain free medical care while within the Order's sphere of influence; can obtain a meeting with an official, ruler, or leader of the Order or a group friendly to the Order in 1d4 days; gain access to a Space Transport or Starfighter for up to 1 week, access to four helpers or agents (Nonheroic 8) while within the Order's sphere of influence, and can spend a Force Point to immediately requisition 10,000 credits' worth of supplies, regardless of restrictions.
  • Jedi Knights are required to participate in battle against an enemy of the Order, perform dangerous missions for the Order, and recruit future members of the Order.
Jedi Master 26-35 Jedi Masters are respected members of the Order who has successfully trained a Padawan to Knighthood.
  • Jedi Masters gain access to a specialist agent (One who has no more than twelve levels, Heroic or Nonheroic) while within the Order's sphere of influence.
  • Jedi Masters are required to train a Padawan, and kill, capture, or disable an enemy of the Order.
Jedi Council Member 36-40 Jedi Council Members are respected Jedi Masters on one of the major Councils of the Order (First Knowledge, Reassignment, and Reconciliation).
  • Jedi Council Members receive no additional benefits or duties from their former rank.
Jedi High Council Member 41-51 The 12 Jedi High Council Members are those on the Jedi High Council, managing the entirety of the Order.
  • Jedi High Council Members can obtain a meeting with an official, ruler, or leader of a rival (But not enemy) Organization in 1d4 days (Maximum once every three months).
Jedi Grand Master 52+ The singular head of the Jedi High Council, the Jedi Grand Master presides over the entirety of the Order.
  • Jedi Grand Masters receive a seat in the Galactic Senate.
  • Jedi Grand Masters are required to elevate Jedi Knights to Jedi Masters.

*If a Youngling fails to achieve an Organization Score of 9 or higher, they are permanently assigned to the Jedi Service Corps with no hope for advancement, except in the most extreme of circumstances.
