As suggested by its name, the Long Spear is a Spear sporting a markedly longer haft, used by primitive cultures for formation fighting and mounted fighting and relegated to the role of ceremonial weapon by more advanced cultures. The Long Spear is often used in formation combat or in mounted combat with just one hand while the other hand is used to hold a shield, but using the weapon one-handed does require both training and strength.
A Long Spear is a Melee Weapon with a Reach of 2 squares. Though a Long Spear is a Large Weapon, it is balanced in such a way that a Medium creature can wield it in one hand. However a Long Spear requires a minimum Strength score of 13 in order to be wielded with one hand without penalties by a creature whose size is one category less than the weapon's size. Otherwise the wielder suffers a -2 penalty to all attack and damage rolls made with this weapon (the penalty increases to -5 if having a Strength score of 10 or less), and cannot utilize any Feats, Talents or special abilities associated with this weapon.
