ID Locks are electronic devices that enable only a specific user to fire a weapon. Without positive identification, the weapon's trigger assembly is locked, preventing the weapon from firing. Most ID locks use a fingerprint sensor in the weapons hand-grip, but other types are available for species without identifying prints. Some ID locks scan a tiny microchip implanted in the owner, while others use special sensors to recognize an individual by their pheromone patterns. ID locks are primarily used by private military companies and certain law enforcement agencies to avoid having their own weapons used against them.
ID locks are notoriously difficult to slice, requiring 10 minutes and a DC 35 Use Computers check. Installing an ID lock is relatively simple, requiring only 1 minute and DC 10 Mechanics check.
