Anakin's role in the Prophecy of The Chosen One was met with reluctance and skepticism by the members of the Jedi Council; while they refused to train Anakin, he is permitted to accompany Qui-Gon Jinn on a mission to escort Queen Amidala back to Naboo. The mission is Jinn's last, however, and his death garners enough sympathy within the Jedi High Council to overturn their previous ruling. Obi-Wan Kenobi, promoted to Jedi Knight after having defeated Jinn's assassin, takes Skywalker as his Padawan Learner.
Over the course of the next decade, the pair are sent on numerous missions as the Separatist movement began gathering momentum in the Rim. The majority of their missions focus on combating the mad scientist Jenna Zan Arbor and the Sith pretender Granta Omega. They are also caught in the conflict between the Republic Outland Regions Security Force and the inhabitants of Zonama Sekot, and take part in the early stages of the Outbound Flight project. Anakin's confidence with The Force increases tremendously over these years, as does his fear of loss, impatience, and recklessness, despite his master's guidance.
