Despite being in a relatively distant area of The Corporate Sector, Ammuud has a surprisingly ancient history. Settled over ten thousand years ago by intrepid colonists from Thokos, the newborn society underwent a radical cultural transformation when its colony lost contact with the outside galaxy.
For millennia their barbaric feuding raged on, until at last a codified system of laws was adopted by each of the seven nation states. The Code of Ammuud specified that disputes were to be settled by a formal challenge and death duel between the two aggrieved parties. Only one fatality resulted instead of the scores from a typical clan war.
In Ammuud's terms this was true progress. When The Corporate Sector sprang up around the planet, The Corporate Sector Authority allowed its backward neighbors to continue practicing their quaint laws, albeit under Authority subcontract.
