Airspeeders are repulsorlift Vehicles that can travel anywhere up to about 300 kilometers above ground level, but they are incapable of true space flight. Because they fly so high above the ground, they ignore penalties for Difficult Terrain and obstacles. Of all Planetary Vehicles, Airspeeders are the most maneuverable.

Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide[]

Though most commonly used on worlds with large urban populations (necessitating traffic lanes that stretch up into the sky), Airspeeder production lags during the turbulent years following The Great Sith War.

Those who once owned Airspeeders trade them in for small Starfighters or a Space Transport; the ability to flee a planet under assault from The Mandalorians or The Sith Empire quickly outweighs the additional costs of maintaining a Starship.

With the rebuilding of Coruscant following the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, several Airspeeder manufacturers are able to rise from relative obscurity by securing exclusive contracts to provide government Air Vehicles to replace what was lost during the war. By the time Darth Krayt comes to power, some of these formerly obscure corporations have risen significantly in both power and prominence.
